Bowel or fecal incontinence (the unintentional loss of stool or gas) causes include damage to the anal sphincters, anal surgery, vaginal childbirth, digestive diseases or conditions (diarrhea, severe constipation, IBD), nerve damage from diabetes, MS, or other neurological conditions. Bowel incontinence in children is referred to as encopresis.
