Diet Tips for Diabetics

My brother was recently diagnosed as a diabetic and we have been told to control his diet. I was hoping any diabetics here could give me some diet tips, like which foods are good and which are not to control blood sugar.

Tip 1 - Eat plenty of whole grain foods, fruits, and vegetables and Eat Often

Eat plenty of whole grain foods, fruits, and vegetables: Include greater amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet, as these provide vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

Eat often: Do not starve yourself or remain hungry, as this will encourage you to overeat when you do eat. This diet tip for diabetes will prevent hypoglycemia, the risky condition where sugar level in the blood falls below the normal range.

Tip 2 - Monitor Your Blood Glucose Everyday

People generally avoid checking blood-sugar levels regularly but monitoring blood glucose everyday is essential to control it. Your daily diet, activity and any medicines have a direct effect on your blood glucose level and unless you check it constantly you cant make required changes and adjustments.

Tip 3 - Switch to brown rice instead of white

You need to take high-fiber and slow sugar releasing foods like brown rice and brown pasta. Skip the refined white varieties and it will be very easy for you to manage your blood sugar levels.
