Food and Drink Ideas for a Children's Party

I am supposed to be managing a party for my young cousin's birthday :(. She has invited a lot of her friends over and I am not quite sure about the food and drinks I should arrange for. Any ideas about foods and drinks that would be popular with these kids? They are all going to be between 9 - 11 years old.

Tip 1 - Donuts with colored icing always work

Donuts with colored icing always work

Donuts always work with children, especially ones with colorful icing like pink and orange. You can order a couple dozen of these depending on the number of children. Typically two per person are enough.

Tip 2 - Microwave Popcorn for the Kids

Microwave popcorn is yummy and quick to prepare. Just get a few packs, throw them in the microwave oven and they'll be ready in a few minutes. However, when serving them to kids, be sure to keep them away from the very little ones because they can cause them to choke.

Tip 3 - Stick to Simple Juices always works best.

Stick to Simple Juices always works best.

"Part of what makes a birthday party unique is the special details. Last year, I served water to the kids at Sam's fireman party in fire hydrant cups. The parents were just as tickled as the kids to see them. So I have seen firsthand the power of a fun beverage."

Tip 4 - Ask parents and kids about any allergies beforehand

Since you will be prepping food for a lot of kids, you should ask their parents about any allergies beforehand. Some kids can be allergic to eggs or nuts while others may have conditions like lactose intolerance. You should make a note of all this and then prepare your food accordingly.

Tip 5 - Pinwheel sandwiches

Just take bread slices and flatten them out with a rolling pin. Now remove the crusts and place your filling on top of the flat slices. Don't place chunks of meat though. Use sliced beef and cheese along with mayo. Now roll up these flat slices and wrap them tightly with clingfilm. Place these rolls into the fridge for about 20 minutes and then cut them up into small circles for pretty pinwheel sandwiches.

Tip 6 - Sausages and hot dogs are always popular

Kids love sausages and hot dogs. The best part is that you don't even need to cook for them. Just get some hot dog buns and buy a couple packets of frozen sausages and you will be good to go. Don't forget the mayo, mustard and ketchup though.
