Restaurant bosses have been congratulated by M.E.N readers for taking a stand against customers who shunned an autistic waiter.
Mike Jennings, who runs Grenache, said he was ‘astonished’ when a group of customers at the Walkden restaurant asked not to be served by Andy Foster - who has autism.
The chef was so stunned that he took to Facebook to warn customers with a similar attitude NOT to book a table there.
Hundreds of shocked M.E.N readers have added their support - commending Mike and partner Karen for taking a stand.
Many have even vowed to book a table at the restaurant in support of the Grencahe team and say they will be specifically asking for Andy to serve them.
They took to our Facebook page to tell us why they thought the restaurant team were right to stand up for their staff.
1. Because Andy is a role model for other autistic people
Former Manchester City player Paul Lake certainly thinks so. He was so impressed with the Grenache team that he’s hoping to visit the restaurant with his autistic son.
Lake told his 31,000 Twitter followers: “Hope to visit soon. Will bring my son, who has Asperger’s, to introduce him to a role model in the workplace.”
Writing on the M.E.N Facebook page, Joanne Woods said: “As a parent who has a child with autism, I would be more than happy for my son to work for such a caring and supportive boss. People can be so ignorant!”
Maria Baldwin wrote: “Just got back from a fantastic meal at Grenache this evening and Andy’s attentiveness and service were excellent. Clearly some nasty, pathetic people around wanting to put others down, with no thought as to how their behaviour affects others.
“Thanks for looking after us Andy and we look forward to coming back soon!”
