How to Write a Video Game Review

Your knees still ache from those epic arcade sessions of DigDug back in '86. You get uncontrollably randy at any mention of Sid Meier, E3, or Carmen Sandiego. When your girlfriend forced you to quit Warcraft II to take out the trash, you mumbled "Yesh, m'lord" under your breath. Your (obviously bloodthirsty) roommate vacuumed over the cord of your Gravis Gamepad controller, brutally severing head from serpent-like coil, and you vowed to avenge the evil deed with your 27th level Paladin. Then, because of EverQuest, you forgot you had a family...<i>you are a gamer</i>.

Game critics have an intimidating task with many games taking over 20 hours to complete. Is the traditional review model not really built for these long, interactive experiences? Millions of kids (along with a healthy number of adults) want to make a living writing about video games. Dan Amrich wants to create more of them. Or at least give them solid advice on how to succeed at getting their dream jobs as video game reviewers.

If you are an avid video gamer, you can earn extra income by writing video game reviews. These reviews can be submitted to video gaming sites or blogs that will pay set fees for them. Most video gamers like to see games tested and rated before they make a purchase, so the reviews you write will be of benefit to them--as well as to you.
