I am confused it is called Football or Soccer?

I have heard Americans call it soccer, while English call it Football. But, what is the right term and why does the term vary?

Since the sport started from Belgium, which is located in Europe, then I suppose we are supposed to call it football since they also call it football.

Besides, what the Americans call football is not even a 'ball'. It's an egg!
