No doubt, we take our thermostats and down comforters for granted. That's why a group of congregants from churches in the Connecticut River Valley slept outside on Saturday night, an act of support for their brethren with no homes. "The kids set-up cardboard boxes, we do have a couple of people with tents," explains the Rev. Kathy Peters of the United Church of Chester. "It's really to give the kids — and adults — an awareness of what it is to be out and to be homeless." For the youth involved, mostly high schoolers, experiencing the physical feeling of homelessness changes perceptions, opens eyes and hopefully inspires a lifetime of activism.
